Western Golf Alliance launches pro shop storefront
Golf club items available just in time for the holidays

BOTHELL, Washington.  The Western Golf Alliance today announced the launch of a club-related product line available to both WGA members and the general public through its online pro shop. This is the first time the Western Golf Alliance has marketed products containing the organization's logos or slogan.

Various products exhibit the "Coveted Pewter Mug" crest, with the slogan "Keeping It Long and Straight". Other items commemorate the Western Golf Alliance Open, and future items will promote the 2008 Open. One of the featured items is a 2007 calendar, with photos memorializing the 2006 Open. The products are available exclusively through the online pro shop hosted by e-commerce partner CafePress.com, and presented on the Western Golf Alliance web site at www.westerngolf.org/shop.html.

"With the expanded interest in the Western Golf Alliance, we believe some of the generic commercial products could subsidize costs of both club operations and golf expenses," said Brian Gray, WGA president. "This is a service we are very pleased to extend to our members, as well as to our fans around the world."

Many of the items in the pro shop - those items that would appeal exclusively to WGA members - are being sold at cost. Such items include the 2007 calendar, golf hat, all shirts, and most other items that make specific reference to the Western Golf Alliance.

As explained by Matt Wakefield, WGA treasurer, the bylaws of the Western Golf Alliance ensure that all revenue accrues to the benefit of the club. "Profit from these products will be managed as if it were top-line revenue for a going concern," said Wakefield. "Since the organization does not have a traditional business model, profits would instead be returned in the form of offsetting potential costs associated with golf events."

It is likely, therefore, that profits will be used to subsidize costs or prizes at the 2008 Western Golf Alliance Open.
