Bookmakers establish wagering lines for the 2018 Western Golf Alliance Open
The gambling books name "Doug and Doug" as this year's odds-on favorite

BOTHELL, Washington.  With the courses and field set for the 2018 Western Golf Alliance Open in Kimberley/Cranbrook, British Columbia, the sports books have begun releasing their odds for this summer's premier golf event. Keeping with tradition, the Boar's Head and Thistle Pub, Sports Book, and Cricket Club of London is the first gambling establishment to post official odds, which suggest Doug Brunton is the pre-tournament favorite.

"After traveling to prior Opens down in the states, Doug Brunton proved last time out that a Canadian is ready to compete by posting the second best NET round in the history of the WGA Open," said Nigel Smythe, owner and manager of the Boar's Head and Thistle. "With many players having international travel involved in attending this year's tournament, I expect the Queen's Commonwealth to be well represented when a true Canuck dominates this strong field."

"In 2016, I shot the lowest weekend score of any competitor, and that experience taught me that I'm more than ready to compete for the WGA Open championship," said Brunton. "It is time for the Coveted Pewter Mug to not just come visit the Great White North, but to stay for an extended time, eh," he concluded.

The top of this year's odds include golfers who are very much "on form" heading into this year's event. This includes another Canadian, Mike Nadon, 4-time champion Brian Gray who is always in contention, and defending champion Peter McGarry. However, at the #2 spot is Doug Atchison, a player who has been posting strong results in competitive rounds and events over the last 18 months.

In explaining other aspects of the odds, Smythe said "I am truly expecting the bonehead Americans to struggle with metric distances and understanding what to wear in 28 degree weather. Then again, so many of them moved to Canada after the last election, perhaps they will be able to adjust after all."

The full odds as posted by the Boar's Head and Thistle are as follows:

Doug Brunton, 2-1
Doug Atchison, 5-2
Brian Gray, 3-1
Mike Nadon, 6-1
Peter McGarry, 8-1
Byron Okutsu, 12-1
Norm Keen, 15-1
Mark Taylor, 20-1
David Duval, 25-1
Trever Esko, 35-1
Big Al Torrico, 100-1
The Remaining "Field", 14-1
