The latest version of the Western Stars released by the Western Golf Alliance
The biennial rankings identify the top casino/golf resorts in the western United States

LAS VEGAS.  Today, the Western Golf Alliance released the 2019-20 "Western Stars" rankings, a biennial list of the top golf resort destinations in the western United States. While a "teaser" of the rankings was "tweeted" on the club's twitter feed @westerngolf last week, the full list was distributed to the media during the Board of Directors' annual winter meeting occurring at the Mirage Resort and Casino.

"As an organization, one of the primary missions of the Western Golf Alliance is to promote that which is best about the great sport of golf," said Brian Gray, WGA president. "Our biennial rankings of the best golf resort destinations is one of the ways we give back to golfers and the golf community."

As a ranking of western golf and casino destinations, of course this year's rankings include several Las Vegas resort properties. However, the top of the rankings - three of the top six - are dominated by locations in Phoenix/Scottsdale area, as many tribal resorts have continued to mature and add amenities and restaurants that make them exceptional for golf "buddy trip" destinations.

In this classification are several locations, including Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, which moved up to #2 overall. This location has two championship courses, a solid casino, and a nearby Topgolf range for added fun. Other locations in great-weather locations include Ak-Chin Resort and Wild Horse Pass (both just south of Phoenix), Barona Resort (north of San Diego), Primm Valley (south of Las Vegas), and Pechanga Resort (Temecula CA).

"Across the board, these rankings represent golf destinations where any group would love to go for a long golf weekend," explained Mark Taylor, Western Stars task force chairman. "These locations include outstanding golf, awesome gaming, and plenty of other activities to keep everyone in your group happy."

"The Western Stars remains an important part of our mission to serve golfers and the golf community throughout the western United States," concluded Gray. "We are here to improve everyone's golf lives, and encourge all golfers to use these rankings to inform and plan their golf trips. Tthe information will lead to selecting a destination that will give them the biggest bang for their buck."
