Western Golf Alliance announces 2004 Open location
Bellingham area to host second major WGA championship

BOTHELL, Washington.  The Western Golf Alliance today announced the selection of the Bellingham, Washington area to host the 2004 WGA Open. Since the WGA had tentatively agreed to hold the 2004 event in Washington state, Bellingham emerged as the clear frontrunner for the championship.

"We want our Open championship to be contested at the premier public courses in the U.S., and that is what Bellingham has," said Brian Gray, WGA president. "In Washington, it doesn't get any better than these courses."

To underscore the point, the announcement also included the fact that two of the four rounds will be played at the two courses associated with the Semiahmoo Resort. These courses - Loomis Trail Golf Club and Semiahmoo Country Club - are the top-ranked public courses in the state, and the only two courses in Washington ranked as top 100 public courses in the country.

"It should be obvious that we are basing the tournament around Semiahmoo," said Trever Esko, WGA competition committee chairman. "This is the best golf destination in Washington, and the Western Golf Alliance is interested in working with the best."

Esko added that the courses under consideration to host other rounds include Kayak Point Golf Course, Homestead Farms Resort, Shuksan Golf Club, and Eaglemont Golf Course.

The WGA expects this announcement to also spur interest in membership, and is prepared for such inquiries. All members are eligible to enter the Western Golf Alliance Open and participate in regional qualifying.
